Vice presidential adviser I. Lewis "Scooter' Libby Jr. was indicted Friday on charges of obstruction of justice. The five-count indictment accuses Libby of lying about how and when he learned the classified information about CIA official Plame's identity in 2003 and then told reporters about it.
So far the whole indictment is about lying, not about the actual leaking of the country's intelligence information. The message is: Lying and hindering the prosecution's investigation is a serious crime. According to the Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, leaking the government information is a very serious matter, and any conduct try to cover it up is a serious crime.
Then let's take a look at Taiwan:
During the investigation of the Kaohsiung MRT scandal, the former deputy secretary to the President lying about if he ever went to Thailand, lying about if he ever went to Korea, lying about who's paying for the trips......
He's lying again and again, using one lie cover up another. After more and more evidence came out, he finally admitted that he didn't tell the whole truth. But, he also emphasize that all these 'not reveling the truth' has nothing to do with the scandal, he is not trying to cover up anything.
So lying and misleading the investigation is OK. Taking the free trip is OK. Everything's OK as long as there's no proving that he's taking the bribe. The most terrible part is a lot of people think it's OK too.
